About Us

Rural People’s Sangam

Our work uplifts marginalized families, protects indigenous rights, and strengthens vulnerable women and children across Tiruvannamalai District.

Founded in 1991, Rural People’s Sangam (RPS) focuses on improving the quality of life of indigenous Irula communities, rural workers, marginalized women, and vulnerable children. Originating as a youth association in 1980, RPS evolved into a people-centred movement advocating for justice, equality, dignity, and environmental protection. Over the decades, we have organized women’s groups, strengthened youth associations, supported land rights, promoted alternative health practices, and expanded education opportunities. Today, RPS implements housing projects, after-school education, legal awareness initiatives, environmental programs, and livelihood training across 150 villages in Tiruvannamalai District.

Our Vision

To join hands with the poorest of the poor to build an equitable society where justice prevails, resources are shared fairly, discrimination is eliminated, women and children live in dignity, and the environment is nurtured.

Our Mission

To strengthen the poorest communities by building human and material resources, nurturing social capital, and organizing women, children, landless labourers, and indigenous groups into sustainable people’s organisations.
